FORMER MANASQUAN HS STANDOUT BEN ROY ADDED TO ROSTER FOR USA GARDEN STATE BASKETBALL SUMMER EUROPEAN TOUR
EAST HANOVER, N.J. – Former Manasquan High School standout guard Ben Roy, currently a sophomore reserve at Boston University, is the latest addition to the roster for the USA Garden State Basketball team that will go on a 10-day European tour from June 21-30 with three games in Croatia and one in Slovenia, it was announced today. The 6-0, 170-pound Roy has appeared in all 18 games this year for the Terriers, averaging 20.3 minutes per game, 4.7 ppg and 2.1 rpg. A two-time Shore Conference Player of the Year by the Asbury Park Press, Roy scored 1,116 points during a stellar high school career despite missing his senior season due to a torn ACL. He joins Florida Atlantic’s Nick Boyd, Princeton University sophomore teammates Vernon Collins and Jake Scott and Rutgers sophomore guard Derek Simpson on what will eventually be a 12-player roster that will depart from Dubrovnik, Croatia, via Seabourn Cruise Lines. Games in Croatia will take place in Dubrovnik, Zadar and Opatija. There will also be a game in Koper, Slovenia. College-aged players with ties to New Jersey – which includes either playing at a New Jersey college, having attended a New Jersey high school or having New Jersey roots – are eligible to participate. The first game on the tour will take place June 23 in Dubrovnik. The selection process to fill out the remaining seven spots on the Garden State USA Basketball tour roster is ongoing.
